CLEAN OCEAN FILM FESTIVAL – SEA STORIES

This past weekend, I was invited to photograph what is shaping up to be a FABIULOUS event.

The Clean Ocean Foundation held the inaugural Sea Stories Film Festival, featuring some of the BEST films the ocean has to offer.

I went to the Opening night at the Athaneum in Sorrento, and view three wonderful short films – In The EYE of the Whale, Dark Side Of The Lens and Musica Surfica.

IN THE EYE OF THE WHALE is a short award-winning documentary directed by Kate Miller providing a glimpse into Bryan Austins efforts to compose and produce high-resolution, life-size photographs of whales.  The images are stunning.

DARK SIDE OF THE LENS -read about it here HERE.

Another terrific short film – the imagery totally captured me.

Lastly, but definitely not leastly – MUSICA SURFICA.  Words cannot describe the impact this film had on me.  AMAZING.  The mixture of finless surfing and violin seems weird – BUT- the cohesiveness and power and bond between the two – SPEECHLESS.  I walked out of the theatre in AWE.  Mick Sowry (the film-maker) was present at the screening, and I was fortunate enough to be able to have a quick chat to him.  Richard Tognetti (lead violin/Artistic Director with Australia Chamber Orchestra) teamed up with Derek Hynd (surfer extraordinaire) to create a masterpiece on King Island.  Pick up a copy of the DVD and accompanying CD - you will not regret it.  The imagery alone is worth it, but when you add the pure and sheer beauty of the violin accompaniment – WOW

Clean Ocean Foundation - Sea Stories

On Saturday, I visited the Sea Stories Art Exhibition held at Antipodes Gallery and Bookshop in Sorrento.  Varioud works of art were displayed, and each and every one of them stunning.

Keep and eye out for next years Clean Ocean Film Festival!
