It’s no secret that I have a small girl-tribe. A small but busy girl-tribe. Fabulous. Wilbur and I like to keep ‘em active. Apparently it’s good for them. Yes. Mostly. Only when they are on my watch it seems!
Example one.
Recently we went camping to Pambula. (This camping trip actually deserves a post of its own……, it’ll come!). Unfortunately whilst we were in Pambula, we were struck down with a nasty nasty tummy-bug. It ended up hospitalising the Murph for four days (and that’s another story). Let’s focus on what happened back at the caravan whilst I was spending unscheduled days in hospital.
We own a bike trailer that allows us to tow two of the girls behind a bike when we go riding. As I am sure MOST people are aware, there is a weight limit. Usually. Generally not meant for two children over 25kg. Surely thats common knowledge? Right? Wrong. I digress slightly. (stick with me here)
I happened to come back from the hospital to collect a couple of things, only to find caravan in silence and the two big girls lying on our bed. Upon seeing me, they started regaling a tale that went something like this….
“daddy took us in the trailer” “daddy went fast and skidded” “daddy went around a corner and we fell out” “daddy left me under the trailer while Mackenzie was screaming” “my head got hurt and my elbow” “my knee was bleeding”……
Huh? Can I not leave hime alone with the girls for ONE second!
It turns out that yes, Daddy may have been going slightly too fast, and skidded – apparently on request from the girls who were having a great old time (it’s all fun until someone loses and eye – or falls out of the trailer). The trailer overturned and rolled (‘in slow motion’ according to Will), and his girls fell out. Madison ended up under the trailer, and Mackenzie flung off to the side somewhere. He apparently gathered them up super quick and shuffled them into the caravan quick-smart, lest anyone see! (Ummm, is t wrong of me to wish I had been there, just to see the look of shock on Wilburs face, as his prized girls flew through the air?!)
All is well. No major injuries! Unfortunately I haven’t a single picture of the damage! Just use your imagination.
Not on my watch.
Example two:
Two days after we returned from camping, Wilbur was outside with the girls blowing bubbles for them to catch, whilst I was inside still unpacking and doing Mum-stuff…..
“aaaaargghhhhh” (*insert hippopotamous/pre-historic animal-like roar*). “Mackenzie is bleeding”.
I rushed outside. Claret red blood EVERYWHERE. Hippopotamous roars from the MAckenzinator. Upon closer inspection, blood was pouring out of Mackenzie’s nose. It turns out, as she was catching Daddy’s bubbles, she tipped and whacked her nose on a small wooden chair. Off to hospital (ER) to check status of ‘nose bones’.
All fine. Soft tissue damage. Fat nose.

Not on my watch.
Example three.
On Saturday I photographed a wedding. My girl-tribe went to a delicious friends house for the day. Thank-you lovely Emma.
I picked up my phone at 6:30pm, only to see a missed call from Emma. Uh oh. Milla had taken a fall of the trampoline. Was OK – but arm was sore. Once I finally got back to them, Milla was favouring her arm, but sell fairly happy.
Two days later and a multitude of hours I will never get back in yet another hospital ER (three different children in an ER in three weeks – surely that’s some sort of record!), we finally got an x-ray showing a little break in her arm, close to the wrist. She is now in plaster. Poor girl.

Note – not on my watch.
I am now going to wrap up Madison is bubble wrap and watch all of them like a hawk. I am done with hospitals this month. No-one is going to get hurt.
Not on my watch.

lanne - If you shared your super cape with everyone…. it might not happen on their watch either. You are super mum… we can’t all live up to that. Poor Will must be feeling terrible.. and i can’t imagine how your friend felt..even blameless as she obviously was. Much love to three wounded warriors and..stay Safe M1!!!!
Peta - Oh my gosh! Lots of fun and games and your house!
Rachael - Awesome way to remember the (maybe not so) little things. I have a house full of boys, and I think this trumps any stories I have (yet).
dale taylor - Oh no, your poor girls! hope everyone is feeling much better now! 3 ER’s, nightmare stuff! I have to admit a tiny smile over your post though, and your ‘not on my watch!’Poor hubby and friend must be feeling a teeny bit guilty
